Recreational Pilot Licence

Amendment 9 to Part 61, which provides for the issue of a Recreational Pilot licence (Aeroplane) (RPL(A)), was signed by the Minister for Transport Safety on 1 April 2008 and came into force on 8 May 2008. The Recreational Pilot Licence is a new pilot licence type aimed at those experienced pilots who can no longer meet the medical requirements for a Class 2 medical certificate issued under the Act but who can still meet the driver licence medical standards for a Class 2, 3, 4, or 5 driver licence with passenger endorsement and who wish to continue flying an airworthiness certificated aeroplane for sport or recreation.

Advisory Circular AC 61-20 provides further information for those persons wishing to obtain a Recreational Pilot Licence and will assist you to complete the application form.

Expressions of Interest Invited - Ballooning

Guidance material is currently being developed for inclusion in a new Advisory Circular (AC) that is designed to assist pilots of hot air balloons comply with the general operating and flight rules contained in Part 91.

Hot air balloon pilots who are current, and operating regularly, are invited to contact Rex Kenny, Manager Sport and Recreation, rex.kenny@caa.govt.nz, and register their interest in assisting with the development of the document through reviewing draft material.

Vector Magazine and Part 149 Pilot/Parachutist Certificate Holders

The CAA is keen to deliver safety messages to everyone flying, but people with Pilot/Parachutist Certificates issued by an organisation certificated under Part 149 do not currently receive Vector magazine. This is because Pilot/Parachutist Certificate holders are not entered on the CAA database, the source for mailing Vector.

If you hold a Pilot/Parachutist Certificate we want to offer you a free subscription to Vector. Simply fill in the form below, or send us the details by email - we'll give you a CAA client number but there will not be a charge for the subscription.
