Airspace

The legal descriptions of airspace, and the geographical coordinates of designated points and other significant locations are contained in the NZ Air Navigation Register. All coordinates are in WGS84.

The files on the web site are copies of the NZ Air Navigation Register files. The web files are update whenever the register is changed, however there may be occasions when delays occur. Refer to the Aeronautical Information Publication (AIP) for current operational information.

A chart to convert from WGS84 and NZ Geodectic Datum 1949 datum coordinates is available here.

You may wish to subscribe to the CAA's Free notification service to receive email messages when airspace descriptions change. This is provided as a helpful aid – you should not rely on any such service for compliance – email is too unreliable for that. There have been some reliability problems with the current system, and if you experience difficulty subscribing, or receiving notifications, we apologise. A new system will be in place later this year to overcome this.

If you have any further questions relating to airspace or to the NZ Air Navigation Register, or have found any anomalies in the information provided, please email the Aeronautical Services Unit aero@caa.govt.nz.
