Airspace Review

This report contains a summary of airspace amendments that are planned to take place during 2008 that the CAA is aware of at the time of the report being written.

During this review, several concurrent activities took place. A formal airspace review was also undertaken of the North Island airspace. This entails the application of a "use it or lose it" and a “keep it simple’ philosophy applied to both controlled and special use airspace. The object is to ensure that designated airspace is appropriately utilised, in terms of the volume of aircraft, airspace activation or the type of activity expected within the airspace.

The values in the table following each amendment only indicate the overall perceived effect for IFR and VFR aircraft. The actual effect will vary considerably; dependant on the aircraft type and operation.

All altitudes in this document are expressed in terms of Above Mean Sea level (AMSL), unless stated.

This document was updated on the CAA web site as each airspace proposal went through the following phases during the consultation process:

  • initial (first advised to affected users);
  • partial (formal advice after local consultation); and
  • complete (consultation is finished).

This document is final.  Consultation was complete on Friday 1 February 2008. Some items may have changed and new items have been added since the first consultation phase.
