The CAA and the New Zealand Airshow Association (NZASA) are working together to ensure safety at airshows.
The role of display director is key to safety, so the association and the CAA have developed a manual defining responsibilities of that role (see link below).

Starting from the 2018-19 airshow season in New Zealand, aviation event authorizations will depend on organisers using an approved display director, based on the manual.
Seminar May 2018
This seminar is an introduction to the new obligations of the display director of aviation events. It will review the organisation and conduct of airshows in New Zealand following the Shoreham Airshow tragedy in 2015. The seminar will cover the rules, and all aspects of display control and discipline. It will also look at the development and mentoring of a new generation of display pilots.
