Karikari helicopter wreckage recovery today

CAA Safety Investigators expect to attempt recovery of the Squirrel helicopter wreckage at Karikari later today.

The barge is currently about 20nm from the area, and Safety Investigator Colin Grounsell predicts high tide at about 2pm this afternoon will be the best time to attempt the recovery.

It could take up to three hours to get the wreckage safely on board the barge.

The team has not yet decided which port the wreckage will be taken to in the first instance, but it will eventually be trucked to secure storage in Auckland.

Further information will be released at it becomes available.
