CAA investigates fatal glider accident Omarama

The CAA is to send two Safety Investigators to examine the wreckage of a glider that crashed near Omarama last night, killing the pilot.

The wreckage is in the vicinity of Snowy Top peak, West Diadem Creek near Omarama. Investigators Colin Grounsell and Matt Harris will fly from Wellington to Christchurch later this morning, and then drive to the scene this afternoon.

Weather permitting, the team will view the wreckage initially from the air, assess the scene, and speak with witnesses and others.

In the interim, the wreckage and release of further information remains under the control of the police.

A further update from the CAA can be expected late this afternoon.
