Scene examination at Kaipara complete

CAA safety investigators have completed their scene examination of the microlight aircraft wreckage at South Head, Kaipara.

Steve Walker and Matt Harris arrived at the area at about midday, and have now released the wreckage to the insurers.

The team has removed some parts of the aircraft for closer examination and testing, and these components are being taken to secure storage at Auckland this afternoon.

The CAA investigation will now continue and will include an analysis of the weather conditions, the intended route of the aircraft, and interviews with any witnesses.

Once complete, the accident report will be published via the CAA website. Investigations take about 12 months on average.
