Appointment of interim Director of Civil Aviation
The Chairman of the Civil Aviation Authority announced today the appointment of Mr Russell Kilvington as the Director of Civil Aviation (DCA) for a six month period from 1 December 2006 to 31 May 2007.
Mr Kilvington is currently the Chief Executive and Director of sister agency Maritime NZ, a position he has held for the past 13 years. He had announced his retirement for Maritime NZ some time ago but has been released earlier by the Maritime NZ Board.
Mr Bettle stressed that this fixed term appointment is an interim one. The purpose of the appointment is to enable the Authority to undertake a robust and considered process to recruit an appropriate permanent replacement for the current DCA, John Jones, who retires from the position on Thursday 30 November 2006.
Mr Bettle said that the CAA was fortunate to be able to retain the services of a person with such a wealth of experience in the New Zealand transport environment during this interim period.
Mr Bettle also announced that, although he was retiring as the DCA, Mr Jones has agreed to continue with the CAA on a contract to provide expert aviation and technical advice to the director and any other matters required to effect a smooth transition.
