Report Dangerous Drone Activity

The Civil Aviation Authority of New Zealand is responsible for investigating complaints about the dangerous use of drones, also known as Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS); Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs); and Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS).

All drone operators are required to comply with the Civil Aviation Rules.

See How to Safely Fly Your Drone for more information about the rules.

If the drone presents an immediate danger, call 111 now and ask for the Police.

To report other safety or security concerns, please email the Authority:

isi@caa.govt.nz

It is important that you provide the following information:

  1. Date, time and location of the event
  2. Your contact details
  3. Identifying details of the drone operator – name and address (where known), car registration plate number, a photograph or detailed description of the person flying the drone.

The authority is limited in the action it can take when the identity of the drone operator is unable to be established.
