Course for Maintenance Controllers

The CAA has recognised that, generally speaking, many aircraft operators do not have sufficient understanding of the requirements for the maintenance of their aircraft.

To help overcome this, the CAA designed and held courses for those people in Part 119/135 aviation organisations who are designated as the Senior Person responsible for the control and direction of maintenance (the 'Maintenance Controller'). The course is also intended for others in aviation that have an interest in the planning and direction of maintenance.

The course is in two parts:

Part One is a pre-workshop self-paced learning module. The aim is to introduce you to, or refresh your knowledge of, the Rules that provide the foundation for aviation safety in New Zealand. You will require access to the CAA web site when working through the pre-workshop module.

Part Two is a two-day workshop. This is designed to be hands-on and practical. Both parts complement each other and will enable you to get the most out of the Maintenance Controllers' Course.

The New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA), in conjunction with the Aviation, Tourism and Travel Training Organisation (ATTTO), have written 'Units of Learning' for the course, and these are now registered with the NZQA. All participants that are assessed as 'competent' in all the required Units, will be issued with a National Certificate in Aeronautical Engineering (Maintenance Controller).
