CAA Sponsors Young Eagles

At its annual conference held in Wellington in June 2001 the Royal New Zealand Aero Club (RNZAC) announced that the Civil Aviation Authority had become a principal sponsor of the Young Eagles programme.

The programme aims to introduce young people to the joy of flying, its science and the skills involved. They enrol at their local Aero Club and participate in events which educate them about safety at airfields and around aircraft, as well as the principles of flight.

The CAA’s safety partnership with the RNZAC introduces young people to the world of aviation in a positive and safe environment, with the expectation that some may become part of the aviation community, for recreation, or as a profession.

A major milestone for Young Eagle participants is going for a flight with a designated aero club member. These flights are conducted at no cost to the Young Eagles and are often the participant’s first flight. They receive a certificate at the time of this flight, and a Young Eagles log in which they record their flights, aviation related visits, and activities.
