Tips on Processing Your Licence Application
The CAA personnel licensing staff are committed to providing effective and fast service. These guidelines are to help in having your licence application assessed and returned as soon as possible.
New Zealand Flight Crew Licensing
If you are seeking the issue or amendment of flight crew documents, expect it to take up to 10 working days to receive your new documents, providing that your application is complete, you meet the requirements of the Act and Civil Aviation Rules, and there are no postal delays.
Applications are assessed and processed in the order they are received. We cannot accept faxed licence applications. Similarly, we cannot fax you copies of completed documentation.
It is critical to complete all sections of the licence application - you can use the checklist on the application form to assist. Remember to include the flight experience summary completed by the flight examiner for the issue of a PPL, CPL, ATPL, or Instrument Rating. Unfortunately, incomplete applications cannot be processed, and they will be returned.
Get all the documentation from your training organisation, or flight examiner, and send in the complete application package yourself.
Personnel Licensing is a busy team. It is greatly appreciated if you do not telephone them about the status of your licence - unless it is absolutely necessary - as it interrupts the process of applications.

Aircraft Maintenance Engineer Licence (AMEL)
Complete aircraft maintenance engineer licence applications are forwarded to Aspeq for assessment. Depending on the number of applications, it can take two weeks for the CAA Licensing team to receive the completed paperwork back from Aspeq.
Subsequently, it can take a further three weeks for the CAA to process your application and issue your AMEL, provided you meet the criteria.
Delivery to the CAA in Wellington
You are welcome to leave your licence application at the CAA reception counter to save time taken by postage. Unfortunately, it is not possible to process the application on the spot. You are also welcome to collect your licence from reception.
