Appointment of Chief Executive/Director-Civil Aviation Authority of New Zealand

I have pleasure in advising that the Authority has announced the appointment of Graeme Harris as the next Chief Executive/Director succeeding Steve Douglas following his resignation due to take effect on 5 April 2012.

The recruitment process stimulated a high degree of interest with a number of potential candidates being identified. Graeme’s experience and aptitude was readily apparent within the programme of interviews and external assessment.

Following an initial term in the RNZAF culminating in the role of Commanding Officer, Avionics Maintenance Squadron, Graeme joined Transpower for a period before taking his first role at the CAA in 1998 as Team Leader Airline Surveillance. In 2000 he was appointed Quality Assurance and Risk Manager at Mount Cook Airlines — by then a subsidiary of Air New Zealand.

In 2004 Graeme returned to the CAA as General Manager Personnel Licensing and Aviation Services. More recently Graeme has had the role of Chief Operating Officer; has acted as Deputy Director, and since April this year has managed the Authority’s Change Programme.
