Use of Cell Phones In-flight on Some Domestic Services

The Director of Civil Aviation, Steve Douglas, has approved the use of cell phones on some Air New Zealand domestic services using the new Airbus A320 aircraft which have been fitted with in-flight mobile technology. The Director has given approval for the use of mobile phones under specific conditions, following a review of aircraft system design and the associated safety requirements.

Air New Zealand crew members will advise passengers whether the use of cell phones is permitted on their specific flight, and during which parts of the flight cell phones can be used. Like other electronic devices, use of cell phones on these specially equipped aircraft is prohibited during critical phases of flight such as the takeoff and landing.

For all other New Zealand flights, the use of cell phones during the flight is not permitted
