The purpose of Part 172 is to prescribe the certification requirements, for the issue of an aviation document, for organisations currently providing, or intending to provide, any air traffic service. While all air traffic services in New Zealand are currently provided by the Airways Corporation of New Zealand Limited there is scope for other organisations to enter the market.
Air traffic services include:
- Aerodrome control service
- Approach control service
- Area control service
- Flight information service
- Aerodrome flight information service
and all these services incorporate the provision of an alerting service.
